BEING AN artist was never my forte.
That was something that Bates seemed to corner the market on in our relationship. I was very proud of his work and thankful that he had let me watch the first couple of times, although I understood why he didnât want me in his work space after a while.
Was I upset or hurt about it?
Honestly, a little bit, but the way he would come upstairs when he was done always put a smile on my face. He would look accomplished and relieved, and in turn I would feel like I had done something great as well.
Perhaps it was an odd way to think, but
I understood it now that I had my own masterpiece to work on.
It had been easy enough to get the raw materials to come to my home.
I went online, found my intended victim, and masqueraded myself as someone they would trust.
A few hours later there was a knock on the door, and it was time for me to begin.
I wasnât going to be as great as Bates was, but I was going to learn my own way to shine with the tools he had provided in his personal space.
And so far, I had been having fun with what I was doing.
Since I always had a fascination with ancient history, I had decided to use one of the techniques of the Ancient Egyptians.
The screams when I started were terrible and would shake anyone to their core; anyone except me and Bates.
This canvas had earned their place on the table, and I would do my best to make something that he would be proud of.
Something that would make him look at it, smile, and say: âThatâs my girl.â
As I walked toward the door that led down into Batesâ own version of Hell, I felt a warm feeling swell inside of me. It had taken me at least two tries until I had gotten comfortable making something of the canvas, but I would finish what I started, because thatâs just who I was.
I pulled the door open and started to walk down the stairs, humming a happy tune to myself, thinking of my parents and my brothers and sisters. I never cared much for being messy before I met Bates, so I had managed to find an untraceable poison to use on them. I had seen a program on TV once that said a girl had managed to kill her father using it, and I scoured the internet until I find out what it was.
Thereâs a machine called a gas chromatic mass spectrometer that scientists use to break down the inner workings of the human blood to find abnormalities, and this was the poison that went undetected in those tests.
Normal people wouldnât think of things like that, but I knew I was far from normal from the moment my mother expelled me from her womb.
I enjoyed being different most days, and other days like today, I was reminded that I was too different.
